Your complaint was that you 'couldn't find the button on the ribbon marked data analysis'.

That button doesn't appear on the Developer tab even after the add-in is activated - it appears on the Data tab. To activate the Analysis ToolPak you could have simply gone to Tools Add-Ins. There's no need to have the Developer tab displayed unless its other features are needed.
