Hi guys, I've recently been given an old Toshiba satellite laptop that I was hoping to cheaply upgrade and use as media pc on my TV. It's running a Core Duo T2250 CPU (1.73 GHz, 32-bit only) and I was hoping to upgrade it to a Core 2 Duo T7600 (2.33 Ghz, 64-bit) They support the same socket, and the intel chipset supports the higher FSB of the T7600, but the only thing I'm slightly concerned about is the differing TDP's T2250: 31 W, T7600: 34 W.

Will my laptop be able to handle the newer processor? As I can get one dirt cheap off eBay ($40). Thanks in advance for any advice you are able to give me. Big trouble is that in 99% of cases, the CPU is soldered onto the motherboard - you can't swap parts around in a laptop the way you can in a desktop.

You should check first, and make sure that it's possible, before you spend the $40. As for the TDP, it shouldn't be an issue - but to check, find out what motherboard the laptop has and research its limitations. Provided, of course, that you can swap out the CPU in the first place.
